Are you unsure of the differences between hiring a pet sitter or taking your dog or cat to the kennel or cattery?
Are you going away on holiday but don't know what your options are for your pet care?
When you decide to go away on holiday but can’t take your pets with you, what do you do? What options are out there, and what is best for you and your pets?
You can hire a pet sitter such as myself to come feed your pets in your home while you are away or you can send them to a boarding kennel.
The decision can very daunting with different services available especially for cats and dogs.
Pros for hiring a pet sitter:
Your pets will stay in their home environment, therefore reducing stress.
Your pet sitter will be spending their time one on one with your pets during the visit.
Convenience of not having to drop off and pick up pets from the kennel.
Kennels charge per pet and have holiday surcharges as some pet sitters like myself have a flat rate.
Cons for hiring a pet sitter:
Your pets will not be interacting with other animals.
Your pets might get lonely if they don’t have some company 24/7.
Pros for using a boarding kennel:
Some dogs really enjoy being around other dogs to play with all day.
Staff are usually there for at least 8 hours a day.
Cons for using a boarding kennel:
You need to drop off and pick at set times, and this may incur additional fees or days needed.
If your pet has anxiety, they may not do well in a kennel environment.
Price per pet and holiday surcharges.
The decision is up to you and what you feel most comfortable with. Most of my clients do not want to send their pets to boarding kennels and prefer the personalized service a pet sitter can offer.
